HE Space is a successful international space company. For over 30 years, we have been supporting our customers with qualified experts in the field of engineering, science and administration. We are currently looking for a Lead Engineer Mechanical Engineering to support our customer in Germany.

Lead Engineer Mechanical Engineering

Key Tasks and Responsibilities                 

In this position you will take responsibility as Mechanical Lead Engineer for design and development of ambitious light-weight structures and opto-mechanical assemblies within one of our large space projects. Your role is to form the professional link between Mechanical Engineering and the other Engineering fields such as Systems Engineering, Optics, Structural Analysis, Thermal Design and to be the contact person for external subcontractors and project partners.

You will have the following main responsibilities:

  • Developing design concepts for ambitious light-weight structures and opto-mechanical assemblies for use in space environment;
  • Taking part in the flow-down of technical requirements and budgets from higher-level specifications to mechanical subsystems.
  • Establishing and controlling the mechanical design process within the project team, including preparation of the relevant design, manufacturing and verification documents.
  • Defining interfaces, generating interface control documents.
  • Carrying out design trade-offs in cooperation with Systems Engineering and other technical disciplines (Optical, Structural, Thermal and Electrical Engineering).
  • Monitoring compliance of technical requirements, budgets and specifications throughout the development process.
  • Preparing, issuing and maintaining requirement specifications for mechanical assemblies and subsystems.
  • Evaluating subcontractor proposals.
  • Identifying, selecting and monitoring external subcontractors.
  • Reporting to the client and to the project team.

Skills & Experience

You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience:

  • University Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering with focus on Mechanical Engineering and Design.
  • Profound knowledge of design methodology and 3D CAD-Design.
  • Several years of experience in the development and design of light-weight structurs or mechanical assemblies for space applications.
  • Experience in the application of relevant design and quality guidelines (ECSS-E and –Q Standards)
  • Strong sense of responsibility.
  • Organized, structured and target-oriented task approach with strong sense of responsibility
  • Ability and ambition to accomplish agreed goals.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory; knowledge of another European language is an advantage.
